The Golden Sombrero’s Top 50 Prospects: #30 – Lonnie Chisenhall (Video)

# 30 Lonnie Chisenhall – Cleveland Indians

3B

DOB: 10-4-88

ETA: 2012

As the top prospect in the Indians organization, we would expect to see a lot of production from Chisenhall, especially considering the fact that he plays a corner spot and has some collegiate experience.  However, Chisenhall slashed a somewhat pedestrian .278/.351/.450 in Double-A Akron in 2010 as a 21-year old.  Amidst concerns about his strike-zone judgment entering 2010, Chisenhall proceeded to walk at a respectable 10% clip.  He went deep 17 times in 460 AB’s and projects to develop even more throughout his early 20’s and may one day produce plus numbers there for a 3B. But he is far from there now.

Scouts think he can stick at third for at least his first 5-years in the Bigs or so, but he is probably going to peak at a 50 at the hot corner.  Scouts drool over Chisenhall’s swing because it is absolutely gorgeous, but we here at the Sombrero are very skeptical of guys his age who are not putting up numbers that support their skills.  Chisenhall scares me, but he is certainly the best Cleveland has to look forward to.
