Mike Lowell Redefines “The Ugly Finder” (Video)

In baseball, one of my all-time favorite expressions has always been, “the ugly finder.” When someone ripped a foul ball into the opposing team’s dugout, it was “the ugly finder;” an expression that is a true testament to both the hilariousness and competitiveness of baseball players.

During last Friday’s game against the Yankees, the Red Sox Mike Lowell redefined the term “ugly finder,” after receiving one of the worst hops that I have witnessed on a baseball field.

Jose Bautista may be better, but not buffer than Brady Anderson (Video)

Last Thursday, Jose Bautista became the 27th player in Major League Baseball history to hit 50 or more home runs in a single season after belting a solo shot of Felix Hernandez in the bottom of the 1st inning.  However, Bautista wasn’t quite done breaking records.

The following day, Bautista launched two more home runs against the Mariners, bringing his season total to 52.  With that 52nd home run, Bautista set a new Major League record for the largest, single season increase in home runs in sequential years.

Adam LaRoche Wears The Golden Sombrero (Video)

Let’s just say that Adam LaRoche has had better games than Friday night’s contest against Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers.  The strikeout-prone first baseman, who has cooled off after a productive month of August, notched four strikeouts in four atbats in Friday’s loss.

As if wearing the golden sombrero wasn’t humiliating in itself, LaRoche looked utterly bewildered in his three at-bats against Kershaw.  However, it was his third and final at-bat against the young lefthander that truly epitomized the extent of LaRoche’s struggles at the plate.

A Tragic End to Tyler Colvin’s Rookie Campaign (Video)

As Chicago Cubs rookie Tyler Colvin crossed home and walked towards the dugout, those watching at home could clearly read his lips when he was approached by the trainer, “I’m bleeding.”  For the next half hour, frightening rumors circulated throughout the online baseball community, fueled by headlines like, “Tyler Colvin impaled by broken bat,” that seemingly left everyone assuming the worst about the youngster.  It seemed that it would only be a matter of minutes until we were seeing photos of Colvin, laying on the ground with the barrel of a bat embedded in his chest.

Analyzing the Derek Jeter Hit by Pitch (Video)

Before I begin really getting into this, I should state that I love and respect Derek Jeter.  Through his career, I have been about as up and down with the guy as any player in the game.  Nomar was without a question my favorite player during all of his years in Boston, and the man that he was while he was there is the image that I will always envision as the franchise guy.  Nomar was Christ-like while in Boston in my opinion, and so Jeter was the anti-Christ.  Once Nomar was traded, however, it became really easy to fall in love with Jeter.  Derek Jeter is everything baseball considers and hopes itself to be.  If you follow this site, you know that I previously mentioned that when Jeter retires, I think he should be handed the American presidency.  Forget that.  The man deserves a coronation.
