The Golden Sombrero’s Top 50 Prospects: #46 – Nick Castellanos (Video)

#46 Nick Castellanos – Detroit Tigers

3B

DOB: 3/4/92

ETA: 2013

The 18-year old 3B is all projection currently, but is very athletic with an excellent frame, plus power, and plus hit tool.  His arm is expected to be able to stay on the left side of the infield, and, despite his age, has already demonstrated a willingness to walk.  He is a long way out, but is regarded as one of the most projectable infield prospects in the game today.  Look for him to finish 2011 in the high minors and receive a cup of coffee by the end of 2012 if healthy.  The Tigers have no one standing in his way and will likely be making a strong push in the next couple of seasons to win the Central, which likely means an accelerated path for Castellanos so long as he develops as his $3.45 million bonus suggests he will.
