The Golden Sombrero’s Top 50 Prospects: #50 – Chris Dwyer

Chris Dwyer – Kansas City Royals

LHP

DOB: 4/10/1988

ETA: 2012

As a former third-rounder with a fastball that sits in the 91-93 range and can run as high as 95, Chris Dwyer easily projects as a solid middle of the rotation arm.  His curveball is at least a plus pitch and occasionally double plus.  His changeup is holding him back, but his handedness will allow him to have success against righties even if it never plays at a real 50.  With an athletic build (6’3”, 210 lb.) and a true swing-and-miss bender, Dwyer will have a chance at a rotation spot within the next couple of seasons.  Between the Carolina League and Double-A, Dwyer tossed 102 innings in 19 starts striking out 113 guys with 43 walks and a 3.00 ERA.
