Cliff Lee vs. San Francisco Giants: Career Stats and More…

We all know that Cliff Lee has the ability to go out and absolutely shut down even the most powerful of offenses in any given start. Lee, who enters Game 1 of the World Series with a career postseason record of 7-0 and a 1.26 ERA, is having one of the greatest postseasons of all-time. Tonight he will face the San Francisco Giants for the first this time in 2010, and it is important to note Lee’s career numbers against the National League Champions:

The Baseball Show with guest Gar Ryness (Batting Stance Guy)

Tonight on The Baseball Show, co-host Clint Evans[Diamond Hoggers] and I interviewed Batting Stance Guy. Just as we anticipated, he offered tons of great stories and was absolutely hilarious. Clint and I thought that we loved the game of baseball more than anyone in this world until we had the chance to talk to BSG.

Topics included:
-His favorite player Kent Hrbek

-How his ‘talent’ came about

-The story behind his faithful “wiffle” bat

-A great story about Joe Mauer

-Derek Jeter & Josh Beckett giving him a hard time

-We talk about those State Farm Insurance commercials with Carlos Quentin

-Joey Votto’s dismount and other players with great dismounts

-His stances to look out for in this World Series

-His thoughts on Brandon Phillips’ ‘pinata swing’

-MANY MORE LAUGHS!

You can follow Batting Stance Guy on Twitter and be sure to get his book Batting Stance Guy: A Love Letter to Baseball.  After reading it, I can honestly say that it is a must read for any passionate baseball fan.

World Series, Game 1: Insert Pun on Lincecum/Lee’s Name Here

Do you know what the best thing about baseball’s postseason is, besides the fact that the Yankees are no longer present in this one?  Anything can happen, and we fans get to witness it.  A career .265 hitter claimed on waivers in the middle of August bats .350 in the NLCS, belts 6 extra base hits (including 3 home runs), and wins the NLCS MVP Award.  A former drug addict turned AL MVP frontrunner misses almost the entire last month of the season just to come back strong and help handle the New York Yankees, at times without even swinging the bat, on his way to his own ALCS MVP Award. These are the reasons I watch. Well, that and the two phenoms that will be alternating time on the mound come Wednesday.

Carlsbad High Grad Cody Ross Earns NLCS MVP Honors

After a nerve-racking road win in Game 6 of the NLCS Saturday night in Philadelphia, Cody Ross of the San Francisco Giants was justifiably awarded the NLCS MVP trophy after torching the greatest playoff rotation ever assembled.  Ross got very hot at the right time, just like the Giants really.

My opinion of Ross has always been that he is a serviceable Major Leaguer with a chance at a decade of service.  He is athletic enough and is a good enough clubhouse guy to keep getting contracts.  The reason I write this, however, is to inform the world that the man called “Smiles” is a New Mexico native, and we are all very proud of him.

“Lincecum! F*ck Yeah!”

For those of you who are either new to The Golden Sombrero or unfamiliar with our writers, you will quickly learn that we are all huge fans of Trey Parker and Matt Stone.  This year, we named our fantasy league “The Denslow Cup,” after the main tournament in their excellent movie, “Baseketball.”  Hell, one of our writers was even nicknamed Towelie –The Towel is also acceptable– nearly 6 years ago; sometimes I sincerely forget that his name is really Justin.  Seriously.

Therefore, when I stumbled upon the “Lincecum! Fuck Yeah!” video the other night, I instantly knew that it had to be posted on the Sombrero.  Even though most of the baseball community has probably already seen this absolute gem, I want to make sure that our writers have the opportunity to enjoy it as well.
