Thoughts and Reflections: Greinke trade, Brewers rotation, Royals farm, Wood, LaRoche and more…

  • With the acquisition of Greinke, the Brewers have made it clear that the 2011 season will be do or die, especially with Prince Fielder’s looming free agency prior to 2012.  If they aren’t having the season that they expected by the All-Star break, it wouldn’t surprise me to see both Fielder and Greinke be dealt, respectively.  The 2009 A.L. Cy Young winner is set to join a Brewers’ rotation that includes Yovani Gallardo, Chris Narveson, and the recently acquired Shaun Marcum.

Around The League: R.I.P. Bob Feller; Fox News Analyst: Luke Scott; Francouer/Melky; Rule 5 Draft

  • The Mourning Journal is reporting that the baseball world lost yet another legend on late Wednesday night/early Thursday morning, as Bob Feller has passed away at the age of 92.  Earlier in the day it was reported that Feller had been moved into hospice care in Cleveland, and now comes the potentially heartbreaking news of the Hall of Famer’s death several hours later. *I am still seeking further confirmation on this story, check back for updates* [Mourning Journal]
  • I’m sure that Atlanta Braves’ fans had a good laugh yesterday after learning that the Kansas City Royals had signed both Jeff Francoeur and Melky Cabrera.  If the Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox made a splash in the free agent market, then one would have to assume that the Royals are floating face down. [MLB Trade Rumors]
  • The always bat-shit-crazy Luke Scott took the time to give David Brown another candid interview on Wednesday at the Winter Meetings.  It turns out that the gun-toting, buck hunter is also a “birther.” I know, shocker. [Big League Stew]

White Sox News: Konerko Rumors, Fair Trades for Floyd, V-Mart, and Phillies/Thornton

Before the Detroit Tigers landed Victor Martinez, the Texas Rangers were allegedly interested in landing the free agent catcher.  The Rangers, who seem to be looking for an upgrade from Mitch Moreland at first base, now might be interested in Paul Konerko. [Baseball Time in Arlington]

Jim Margalus shares his thoughts on the Chicago White Sox decision to decline arbitration on catcher A.J. Pierzynski.  He also explores the potential outcomes of the White Sox decision, ranging from the “most likely to the most dangerous.” [Sox Machine]

Mike Moustakas Takes Batting Practice (Video)

There is a reason that Kansas City Royals seemed indifferent about their lack of production at the hot corner in 2010, and that reason is Mike Moustakas.  Drafted second overall by the Royals in the 2007 MLB Amateur Draft, Moustakas put together a monstrous 2010 Minor League season, hitting .322 with 41 doubles, 36 home runs and 124 RBI while splitting time between Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha.  He also showed great discipline at the dish, drawing 34 walks and striking out only 67 times in 484 at-bats.
