Bryce Harper wastes no time in first televised at-bat (Video)

In his first televised professional at-bat, 18-year old Bryce Harper ripped an RBI single to put the Scottsdale Scorpions ahead 2-1, in the Arizona Fall League Championship.  Harper came to the plate in the bottom of the second inning with one out and Diamondbacks outfielder Marc Krauss on second base.  Harper got straight to business, ripping Kyle Greenwalt’s first pitch fastball past an outstretched Jose Iglesias at shortstop.

Bryce Harper Takes Batting Practice (Video)

Bryce Harper will finally make his highly anticipated television debut on Saturday afternoon, as the Scottsdale Scorpions take on the Peoria Javelinas for the Arizona Fall League Championship.  The Scorpions will attempt to derail the Javelinas, who are seeking their second consecutive title and are lead by the 2nd overall pick in the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft, Dustin Ackley.

In a game that is loaded with some of the most exciting young players in all of baseball, all eyes will inevitably be on the 18-year old Harper, who is now in today’s starting lineup. Despite the skepticism surrounding the Nationals’ decision to send their 1st overall selection in the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft to the AFL, Harper has continued to show that he can handle virtually every situation, on and off the field.

Brett Jackson Takes Batting Practice (Video)

Both the Chicago Cubs and their fans have a lot to look forward to in 22-year old outfielder, Brett Jackson.  Since being drafted 31st overall by the Cubs in the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft, Jackson has rapidly ascended through the minor leagues thanks to a combination of power and speed.  Baseball America ranked him as the 74th best prospect in all of baseball prior to the 2010 season, and needless to say, Jackson exceeded the expectations.

Marlins Announcers: “We Traded…Dan Uggla!” (Video)

Ok, so they didn’t actually say that, but you have to imagine that the Florida Marlins’ announcing tandem of Rich Waltz and Tommy Hutton were instantly devastated upon learning that the organization had traded Dan Uggla.  No longer will they be able to deliver their patented home run call, “His name is Dan Uggla!”

Soon, Marlins fans will have the joy of hearing, “His name is Omar Infante!” Granted, it will only be, roughly, eight to nine times per year, and for the sole purpose of informing the fan base that they have a new player.

Justin Upton Takes Batting Practice (Video)

On Tuesday, rumors began to circulate regarding Justin Upton and the Arizona Diamondbacks willingness to hear offers for their right fielder.  Thus far, the teams that have expressed an interest in the 23-year old include the Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves, and as of a few minutes ago, the New York Yankees.  Prior to the start of the 2010 season, Upton — who, on The Golden Sombrero, is commonly referred to as JUpton — signed a 6-year/$50 mil deal with the Diamondbacks that will make him a free agent after the 2015 season.

In 2010, he posted a .799 OPS that included 27 doubles, 17 home runs and 69 RBI, while playing in 133 games.  There are very few players in all of baseball who possess the strength and bat control that Upton does, and I expect that nearly every team will inquire about his availability.  Here is a video of him taking batting practice during Spring Training in 2010:
