“Eat-A” Promoted to Assistant of Baseball Operations

A few months ago we posted about our good friend, Sam Eaton (known to us as “Eat-a”; pronounced EET-uh), and his job within the Arizona Diamondbacks’ front office. Last week Eat-a was promoted. He now is the Assistant to Baseball Operations. Quite clearly in our opinion Kevin Towers is running the best front office in baseball out there in Phoenix with talents like Eat-a being recognized and rewarded so appropriately. We fully expect them back in the World Series very soon.

Congratulations, dude! We’re really proud of you and know you’re going to continue to excel in your new role. Maybe see if you can’t get them to send you to scout Matt Purke some Friday evening this spring. I will meet you out in Fort Worth after school. Lots of love from the Sombrero, man.

Mustaches For Kids (and educational equity)

The other day I received an email from a good friend and former teammate, Mark Wilcox, who is currently teaching science in Baltimore, MD.  Mark just launched a fundraiser in which he will be growing a mustache to  raise money for his school’s various classroom projects.  Please take the time to read his letter and donate to this great cause.

—————-

Friends and Family,

The time of year that I raise funds for classroom projects in a somewhat non-traditional way has arrived. That’s right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking mustache.  I’ve named it Dr. Watson because my mustache-growing ability is unfortunately quite elementary.

In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. I am asking you to ‘sponsor’ my mustache by making a contribution to DonorsChoose.org for any amount you feel appropriate.  It might be $1 or it might be $100 – no matter what, you’re giving to a great cause and every dollar pushes teachers and students to strive for higher achievement.

Your [tax deductible!] donation will go directly to local low-income classroom projects.  I’ve chosen several projects posted by teachers who I know are putting forth huge amounts of effort and who will positively affect their students with just a little nudge from your wallet.  You can visit my Giving Page, The Dr. Watson is a fantastic mustache Giving Page, to make a donation.

Mustaches for Kids depends on word-of-‘stache publicity, so if you can’t give at this time, please forward this email to anyone who might be interested in doing good and having fun.

With great sincerity and a healthy amount of shame,

Mark

The Baseball Show: MLB Agent Matt Sosnick

Tonight on The Baseball Show, Clint[Diamond Hoggers] and I welcomed Matt Sosnick from Sosnick & Cobbe Sports Agency.

We discussed a little bit of everything including the rise and fall of Dontrelle Willis, sports agency as a profession, Matt’s experiences in Major League Baseball, stories about his clients, Josh Willingham and Ricky Nolasco’s off-season contract negotiations, why Adam Dunn can’t find a permanent home, and a lot of interesting stuff in between.

We also spent a solid portion of the show discussing Jay Bruce and what the future holds for the 23-year old outfielder. If you are familiar with our program, then you know that Clint is a die-hard Reds fan, as well as Jay Bruce’s biggest fan.  Matt was kind enough to offer some insight into the possibility of a long-term contract for his client.

You can read all about it and much more on Jay Bruce over at Diamond Hoggers

The Baseball Show with guest Matt Sosnick(MLB Agent) – Thursday, 7pm ET

Tune in at 7pm ET on Thursday night for a special edition of The Baseball Show with MLB agent Matt Sosnick of the Sosnick Cobb Sports Agency.  Clint and I are extremely excited and honored to have Matt on the show, as we have no doubt that his experience as an MLB agent will generate a stimulating and insightful discussion.  For those who are unfamiliar with Sosnick Cobb, here is a brief list of players who they represent:

Jay Bruce, Kyle Blanks, Ryan Doumit, Josh Johnson, Brent Morel, Ricky Nolasco, Freddy Sanchez, Josh Willingham, Aaron Cunningham and Dontrelle Willis.

Don’t worry, in case you are unable to listen to The Baseball Show as it airs, it will be posted and available to stream or download later that night.

With the Reds just a lone win away from clinching the National League Central, every pitch thrown in tonight’s game against the Astros has had a postseason feel to it.  The 30,000+ in attendance at the Great American Ball Park are buzzing from the anticipation of the Reds returning to the postseason for the first time in 15 years.  For passionate Reds’ fans like the Somebrero’s good friend Clint–from DiamondHoggers.com–tonight’s game carries an extra significance.
