Clint and I bring the heat for almost a full hour; I also dig up some great stats that might surprise you about the Reds past success against Roy Halladay.

As if walking off the field under his own power didn’t make him seem like a total badass, Logan Morrison proved how tough he really is by starting both games of Monday’s double-header, less than 24 hours after being drilled in the face by teammate Emilio Bonifacio’s foul ball.

Late last night I reflected on what happened to Morrison by invoking my memories of how a similar incident ended the career of Juan Encarnacion in 2007.  Thankfully(and surprisingly), Morrison escaped the scary incident without any serious injuries- just a golf ball sized lump beneath his left eye and some serious seam marks.

Based upon the video replays of Morrison wearing a foul ball to the face, and considering the photo(pictured above) that he posted on Twitter last night, I expected that he might hit the 15-Day DL, or at the least be held out of Monday’s games- I mean come on, the guy took a batted ball to the face!

In Tuesday’s 16 inning contest between the Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros, Ryan Howard joined an elite club that I’m sure he would prefer not be a part of.  Howard managed to go 0-7 with 5 strikeouts- The Platinum Sombrero– before he was ejected for passionately disagreeing with 3rd base umpire Scott Barry over the check swing that ultimately notched his 5th strikeout, in the bottom of the 14th.

As if Howard’s Tuesday night performance wasn’t concerning in itself, in his last two games he is 0-11, with 8 strikeouts.  If anything, perhaps this explains why Howard had such a short fuse by his final at-bat; he knew that he was in the midst of an epic, strikeout streak and probably assumed Barry was out to get him.  Let’s look at each of Howard’s 7 at-bats from Tuesday to better understand how he became the latest to wear the Platinum Sombrero.

Ever since I was a little kid, I have always reserved the hope that I might be lucky enough to catch a foul ball, perhaps even a yard ball, at a MLB game.  There is always that moment right as I get to my seats and check out the view where I evaluate how probable catching a foul ball will be.  Although I have come extremely close on a few occasions, and even caught a few batting practice home runs, I am yet to leave a professional baseball game with a foul ball.  When that glorious day finally comes, I want to have done it the right way- it must be a barehanded, challenging catch.

Whenever I see a fan snag a foul ball with a glove, I cannot help but think that they cheated and are therefore unworthy of my praise.  The well-timed, barehanded catches have always been the most impressive; they are the ones that receive an ovation from an entire seating level, cause the announcers to take notice, and ultimately secure a shout-out on MLB Tonight and Quick Pitch.
