White Sox News: Paul Konerko, Fixing the Bullpen, Trade Rumors, Buehrle Rescues Dog and more…
- Gordon Beckham is ecstatic that Paul Konerko will be retuning to the South Side next season. Apparently it was Konerko who helped the White Sox second baseman through his toughest times in 2010, “He helped me see the light at the end of the tunnel. He helped me get perspective on the game.”
- About a week and a half ago I posted a link to Sox Machine’s survey on all of Kenny Williams’ trades in his 10-years as the Chicago White Sox GM. Readers were asked to vote from 1 to 10 on his 50+ trades, with 1 being awful and 10 being a miracle. Well, the results are in…
- With all of the offensive pieces in place for the 2011 season, the White Sox are now addressing their only glaring weakness, the bullpen. However, after shelling out the big bucks for Adam Dunn, Paul Konerko and A.J. Pierzynski, they will most likely have to make a trade to add a reputable arm.
- White Sox Observer has identified the four players who would most likely be traded, if the White Sox choose that route- Dayan Viciedo, Mark Teahen, Mark Buehrle and Carlos Quentin. Quentin’s name has appeared in several trade rumors over the last couple of weeks, although Kenny Williams has vehemently denied such rumors and even went as far as to assert that Quentin “is going to have a big year.”
- Over the weekend, Mark Buehrle rescued a wounded dog that he found while hunting in Southern Illinois. Apparently the dog had been shot in the abdomen with an arrow and would have died had the White Sox southpaw not saved the day. He’s even offered to pay for any additional medical attention that the dog may need…try to top that, Tony La Russa.
- Kenny Williams appears to already be scrounging through the reliever bargain bin, as he signed former New York Yankees relief pitcher Brian Bruney to a Minor League deal.
- Brandon McCarthy has had very little success since being traded from the White Sox to the Texas Rangers for John Danks and a few others in 2006. After being released by the Rangers last month, McCarthy drew interest from a handful of teams before ultimately signing a one-year contract with the Oakland A’s on Monday.
