Golden Sombrero: Juan Uribe

With each strikeout, Uribe scrunched his face a little more

Top 1: Juan Uribe flied out to left against Dillon Gee

Top 3: Uribe struck out on a foul tip against Gee

Top 5: Uribe struck out swinging against Gee

Top 7: Uribe struck out swinging against Ryota Igarashi

Top 9: Uribe struck out swinging against Francisco Rodriguez

Final Line: 0-5, 4 strikeouts

Notes:  Each of Uribe’s strikeouts were of the swing-and-miss variety (I know, big shocker). The Dodgers’ major offseason acquisition (Matt Guerrier doesn’t count) is now hitting .221 on the year and an atrocious .130 on the road.

Total 2011 Sombreros: 19

Golden Sombrero: Dustin Pedroia

Like we don’t know he’s ridiculously bald under there…

Bottom 1: Dustin Pedroia struck out swinging against Ervin Santana

Bottom 4: Pedroia struck out swinging against Santana

Bottom 6: Pedroia flied out to right against Rich Thompson

Bottom 8: Pedroia struck out swinging against Fernando Rodney

Bottom 9: Pedroia grounded into a force out against Jordan Walden

Bottom 12: Pedroia struck out swinging against Trevor Bell

Final Line: 0-6, 4 strikeouts

Notes: Pedroia’s golden sombrero against the Angels on Wednesday was the first by a Red Sox player this season.  The impressive feat, as well as the fact that the game ended shortly after 2:45 am est, was enough for Terry Franconca to hold Pedroia out of the line up on Thursday

Total 2011 Sombreros: 18

Golden Sombrero: B.J. Upton

Classic BUpton: walk-off HR on Tuesday, golden sombrero and an ejection on Wednesday

Bottom 2: B.J. Upton struck out swinging against Brandon Morrow

Bottom 4: Upton called out on strikes against Morrow

Bottom 6: Upton called out on strikes against Morrow

Bottom 9: Upton called out on strikes against Frank Francisco

Final Line: 0-4, 4K (three looking)

Notes: When will this guy finally put it together? His golden sombrero on Wednesday lowered his season average to .238 and his home average to .197.  After being called out on strikes in the 9th, Upton lost his cool, slamming his bat and helmet and possibly making contact with the umpire.

Total 2011 Sombreros: 17

Golden Sombrero: Derrek Lee

D-Lee: Far removed from his famous 2005 season…

Top 1: Derrek Lee called out on strikes against Gavin Floyd

Top 4: Lee struck out swinging against Floyd

Top 5: Lee called out on strikes against Floyd

Top 7: Lee struck out swinging against Jesse Crain

Final Line: 0-4, 4 strikeouts

Notes: After seemingly finding his swing (7-for-21 from April 26 – April 30) Lee kicked off May with a bang, fanning in each of his four at-bats on Sunday.  The performance lowers Lee’s slash line to .228/.304/.287 for the 2011 season, and he has now struck out 27 times in 101 at-bats.

Total 2011 Sombreros: 16

Golden Sombrero: Lou Marson

Once again, extra innings make a sombrero possible

Bottom 3: Lou Marson called out on strikes against Rick Porcello

Bottom 5: Marson called out on strikes against Porcello

Bottom 7: Marson grounds out to third against Porcello

Bottom 10: Marson strikes out on foul tip against Al Alburquerque

Bottom 12: Marson strikes out swinging against Brayan Villarreal

Final Line: 0-5, 4 strikeouts

Notes: Marson did absolutely nothing to help his team win the extra inning affair against the Tigers.  He is the second player on the Indians to record a golden sombrero this season (Shin-Soo Choo the other).
