The Hawk Harrelson Soundboard

There’s not much to say about Chicago White Sox announcer Ken “Hawk” Harrelson that hasn’t already been said; you either love him or find his style of broadcasting utterly intolerable.  In an age of broadcasting objectivity, Hawk rests in a league of his own as the epitome of the “homer” announcer.

As a lifelong White Sox fan, Hawk has been the voice of the organization for my entire life and has called all of my most cherished White Sox memories.  You can say what you want about the man’s professional approach–or lack thereof–towards broadcasting, but Hawk’s level of enthusiasm is contagious, and that’s precisely why White Sox fans love him.

Audio from Thursday’s appearance on B-Squared Show

Thanks to 312Sports.com, the B-Squared Show, and especially the hosts–Bedo and Bernfield–for having me on their radio show this morning.  They first had me on as a guest shortly after the Sombrero was launched in March 2010, and it was great to get back on the air and talk baseball with them today.

Today’s discussion focused on the Chicago White Sox and whether they still have a legitimate chance of making the playoffs.  Want to know what I think about the Sox chances?

Be sure to check out the audio segment from today’s show:

Guest appearance on B-Squared radio show, Thurs at 10:30am cst

I will be making my second appearance on the B-Squared Show on Thursday morning, at 10:30am, cst.

The B-Squared Show is an online radio show, hosted by the Chicago sports site 312Sports.com, that covers all things sports but with an emphasis on Chicago teams.

Whether you are a baseball fan or not, I highly encourage everyone to tune in to the B-Squared Show on weekdays from 10am-noon.  The show’s hosts, Bedo and Bernfield, always have a great variety of  guests, offer excellent analysis, and in general, do a tremendous job day in and day out.

I’d like to thank them in advance for having me on the show again and I will hopefully have the audio available later in the day.

The Best Baseball Commercials, Part 8: Chicago White Sox

After taking a break from my “Best Baseball Commercials” series, I have decided that now is the perfect time to stage a comeback with Part 8, the Chicago White Sox.  After watching my boys do some work this past week, sweeping two crucial road series against Cleveland and Boston, I feel that it is necessary to post the best White Sox commercials both as a sign of my support, as well as with the hope that it keeps them rolling.

After beating the Tigers 5-4 in 10 innings on Monday afternoon, the surging White Sox have now won 7 in a row, all on the road.  As the series with the Minnesota Twins on September 14-16 edges a little closer every day, there’s really only one thing that must be said:

In the words of Hawk Harrelson, “Don’t stop now, boys!”

Manny Ramirez not in White Sox lineup for Tuesday night, yet…

According to Rotoworld, Manny Ramirez is not currently in the Chicago White Sox starting lineup for Tuesday night’s game against the Indians.  After many were disappointed that Manny was not available for Monday’s contest, we quickly learned that Ramirez’s flight from Los Angeles was scheduled to arrive in Cleveland this afternoon, and that he would undoubtedly be in Tuesday’s lineup.

For those who wish to remain hopeful about Ramirez making his White Sox debut tonight, remember that there are still several hours until the game’s scheduled start time.

Considering that Ramirez has been a regular on the All-DL Team this season, it wouldn’t surprise me if his inclusion in the starting lineup was a game time decision.  Ozzie will most likely let him stretch and take batting practice before having a street-spanish-riddled coversation with him about whether he is able to play.

Currently, Mark Kotsay has been penciled in as the White Sox DH for tonight’s game against the Tribe.
