Rookie Card Corner: Vladimir Guerrero 1995 Bowman

The Golden Sombrero presents Rookie Card Corner: Vladimir Guerrero 1992 Bowman

Fun Fact: At just 16-years of age, a scrawny Vladimir Guerrero showed up for a pro tryout in the Dominican Republic, arriving on the back of a motorcycle and with two different sized spikes.  In the larger of the two, Vlad stuffed a sock with the hopes of an improved fit.  It was that same day that the Montreal Expos offered Vlad his first professional contract.

Happy 5th anniversary to the 2005 World Series Champions: Chicago White Sox .  As a White Sox fan, October 26, 2005 marks one of the greatest days in my life, and is all but a distant memory. I remember exactly where I was when I watched each game of the World Series against the Astros.  That includes being lucky enough to watch Game 1 from the upper-deck, down the right field line.  Despite the fact that I had knee surgery a few days before — I was even pushed around U.S. Cellular Field in a wheel chair — it was easily the greatest baseball game that I have ever attended.  To this day, I have never seen a third baseman play the position like Joe Crede did that night.

“Don’t stop now, boys!”

Soak It Up, Colby Lewis (Video)

After Colby Lewis struck out Derek Jeter to end the eighth inning, I had goose bumps as he walked off the mound, slowly striding towards an ecstatic Rangers’ dugout. If you didn’t, you’re either not human or a Yankees fan.

There’s a moment, right before he reaches his teammates at the edge of the dugout, where he gazes into the depths of the roaring crowd and seemingly realizes the magnitude of his historic performance.  Such a moment kind of defines the Rangers’ spectacular season, don’t you think?

Jason Heyward Rookie Selling on Ebay for $13,000

Ok, so it’s not exactly $13,000; it’s actually $12,999.99.  You know, so it doesn’t feel like you are actually dropping $13K on a baseball card.  Whether it is actually worth that exact amount or not, there is no denying that the 2008 Bowman Chrome Jason Heyward Superfractor Auto RC is one of those cards that collectors will pay any price for.  It is the rarest rookie card – autographed nonetheless – of the Braves rookie outfielder, and it is the only one like it.  That’s right, it’s a 1 of 1.

You might remember the story about Stephen Strasburg’s 2010 Bowman Chrome Superfractor RC that took eBay by storm in May and ultimately sold for nearly $17,000.  What made that card so incredibly rare and valuable is the fact that pulling a Superfractor in a pack of 2010 Bowman Chrome is 1:47,000. A Superfractor can be any Bowman Chrome card, so considering that the Heyward one is also an autographed rookie, it makes it even more rare.

So if you are bored on this fine Saturday afternoon, and have a little extra spending cash after hitting all of your college football picks this morning, then why not place a bid on one of the hottest rookie cards of all-time.
