Site News: The Sombrero is healed and functional

As most of you have probably noticed, the website has been red-flagged by Google as a suspicious site and a warning page pops up when it’s first accessed.  Basically, a hack of the GoDaddy server that hosts the Sombrero exposed a specific vulnerability in many sites, and malware was embedded in several key files and directories.  While the site appeared to be functioning fine on the surface, that is if chose to shrug off your browser’s warning, I received a fatal error message every time I attempted to access the admin dashboard.

After spending an obscene amount of time reading about similar attacks and how they were resolved, making small talk with a host of GoDaddy tech support goons, and bugging the crap out of the Sombrero’s Tech Support guru, Benny, everything is officially back to normal and safe for viewing.

Also, the site’s design and overall appearance has been slightly altered in response to this week’s problems, although it’s not definitely overshadowed by that alarming splash page.  Anyway, don’t be surprised to see a few more changes to the layout in the upcoming weeks, and if you have any suggestions, feel free to contact me.

Thanks for everyone’s on-going support of the Sombrero and please remain patient as we rebound from this mess.  Stay up-to-date with us by liking our Facebook page, following us on Twitter, and subscribing to our RSS feed.
