Notes: Shields’ sombrero was the second by a pitcher this season, and both were due to the face they fired a complete game.  For Shields it was his third-consecutive CG, as he allowed one run on three hits, walked one and struck out nine on Friday against Houston.

Notes: Hitting in the leadoff spot, Werth collected his second sombrero of the season on Friday against the White Sox.  In a game that saw the Nats blow three leads but ultimately win the 14^th inning, Werth fanned in his final two at-bats and did nothing to contribute after the ninth inning.

Notes: I somehow overlooked this one last week when reporting sombreros.  Like so many sombreros, Sizemore’s third of the 2011 season came in an extra-inning affair on the 19^th against the Pirates.

Notes: Needing just one more long ball to become the first player to hit 500 combined home runs between Japan and the MLB, Matsui came up painfully empty in the A’s 3-2 loss to the Mets on Wednesday night.  Although I haven’t seen any highlights of his at-bats, I can easily picture Godzilla flailing at Dickey’s fluttering knuckleballs.
