White Sox News: offer arbitration to Konerko,Putz; Top-10 Prospects by Baseball America

The Chicago White Sox have offered arbitration to 1B Paul Konerko and RHP J.J. Putz…..the team ultimately chose not to offer arbitration to OF/DH Manny Ramirez, as well as catcher A.J. Pierzynski…..we will have more information as soon as it is made available. [@InsideTheSox]

On Monday, the White Sox claimed RHP Waldis Joaquin off waivers from the San Francisco Giants….. Joaquin, 23, broke camp with the Giants in 2010 but was demoted to Triple-A in early May…..posted a 9.64 ERA out of the Giants bullpen…..White Sox see something in the kid, considering in 2009 he registered a 2.25 ERA in 44 appearances while splitting time between Double-A and Triple-A. Joey Votto runs away with NL MVP (Video)

On Monday afternoon, Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto was named the 2010 National League MVP after receiving 31 of 32 first-place votes.  For those who watched Votto closely this season, the prestigious recognition comes as no surprise considering that he was the most impressive hitter in the NL and arguably in all of baseball.

Nobody covers the Reds like my man Clint over at Diamond Hoggers, and here is what he had say after Votto was announced as MVP:

White Sox News: Additions to 40-man roster, Thornton, Adam Dunn, and Ticket Prices

There will be a minor increase in the price of White Sox tickets in 2011…..prices and promotions will still be aimed to draw families to the ball park…..chief marketing officer Brooks Boyer says that there will be even more “Value Mondays.” [ESPN Chicago]

Ken Davidoff believes the White Sox are still the leading candidate to sign closer Rafael Soriano……all of their attention is on landing Adam Dunn…..looking like Matsui is still the backup plan if Dunn doesn’t work out…..Matsui wants to play for a team whose home games are on grass. [Newsday]

The Baseball Show: Hotstove Edition

Bryce Harper wastes no time in first televised at-bat (Video)

In his first televised professional at-bat, 18-year old Bryce Harper ripped an RBI single to put the Scottsdale Scorpions ahead 2-1, in the Arizona Fall League Championship.  Harper came to the plate in the bottom of the second inning with one out and Diamondbacks outfielder Marc Krauss on second base.  Harper got straight to business, ripping Kyle Greenwalt’s first pitch fastball past an outstretched Jose Iglesias at shortstop.
