The Golden Sombrero’s Top 50 Prospects Recap: 11-20

Shortly after the turn of the New Year, we began unveiling our Top 50 Prospects for the 2011 season.  The list is the product of hours of deliberation between Dee and myself, and is far from your average, cookie-cutter top prospect list.

Our rankings are based on a number of criteria such as ceiling, refinement, age, level, performance, and health thus far.  Positional scarcity and chances to stay at a premium position in the Major Leagues carries some weight too, but is a lesser component. No pitcher rankings are based off of potential as relievers because no top arm ends up in the bullpen unless the front office decides to lose its mind.

In case you have missed any player on our list, here is a recap of 11-20:

Spring Training Prospect Tracker: Feb. 28

On Monday, all eyes were on Bryce Harper as he made his Spring Training debut off the bench for the Nationals.  The 18-year-old, who served as the team’s DH, received two at-bats, striking out in both of them.  I was just happy to see him get his hacks in, and could care less that he struck out twice.

Elsewhere, Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas both went yard in a 12-11 loss to the Rangers; a game that featured 25 hits, 12 of which went for extra-bases.  Danny Duffy managed to surrender a run without giving up a hit, and fellow left-hander Chris Dwyer was tagged with the loss after allowing a three-run seventh.

But at the end of the day it was Brandon Belt who turned in the day’s best performance, which included an RBI single in the second, and a bases-clearing double in the seventh inning that broke the game open.

MLB Look-alikes: R.A. Dickey and Dave England (Jackass)

The Golden Sombrero presents MLB Look-alikes: R.A. Dickey and Dave England (Jackass)

Just imagine Dickey without the mountain man scruff, or better yet, imagine England with it.

England is now the third member of the Jackass crew to appear in our look-alikes series, Johnny Knoxville and Steve-O being the others.

And for those who are unfamiliar with the R.A. Dickey face, be sure to check out Amazin’ Avenue’s Photoshop contest from last season.
