\u00a0<\/strong> \u201cWho the hell went on playing college ball and ever thanked their sac bunt skills?\u00a0 Playing for one run late\u2026I can give you that.\u00a0 Any other time?\u00a0 Swing the f#*@!&g bat!\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

On Bunting for a Base Hit<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt takes a guy with balls to fully embrace bunting for a base hit.\u00a0 It\u2019s sneaky, and in an odd way almost scandalous when executed perfectly.\u00a0 If you got the speed to match the balls, I can watch a guy do that to a team all day.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

On Base Running<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong>\u201cNow that\u2019s how you can really piss people off.\u00a0 Not just make them angry, but absolutely infuriate them.\u00a0 Stealing bases.\u00a0 Going first to third on everything.\u00a0 Taking two on the slightest misplayed ball by an outfielder.\u00a0 That shit rattles every club.\u00a0 Take it to a team on the bases and watch them eventually crumble under the pressure of trying to stop a well-oiled, running machine let loose on the base baths.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

On Hitting for Average<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Look at it this way.\u00a0 What\u2019s more important to track, in regards to producing base runners, and ultimately runners scored?\u00a0 How they advanced to first in one specific way, or in a variety of four different ways?\u00a0 I\u2019ll take on-base% all day.\u00a0 I don\u2019t care how you get there \u2013 just *&$%#!@ get there.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

On Hitting for Power<\/strong><\/p>\n

“I like to see guys who can hit scoreboards and break them with a single swing of the bat.\u00a0 That\u2019s what I call, hitting for power\u2026 outages.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

On Elephant Jokes<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

“Greatest.\u00a0 Jokes.\u00a0 Ever.\u00a0 Seriously, if you can string three or four together and finish with a killer punch-line, I\u2019m not sure there\u2019s a better joke out there.\u00a0 Priceless humor.\u00a0 Thanks for those, Pops.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

On Wood Bats vs. Aluminum Bats<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Woody all day, fool.\u00a0 It might just be the pitcher in me, but a wood bat game is how the big boys play the game.\u00a0 BB Core or not, aluminum is just a cheaper version of wood bat baseball.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

On Double Plays <\/strong><\/p>\n

“A ground ball, two ball, is one of life\u2019s little beauties.\u00a0 There\u2019s nothing better than watching three infielders, turn two outs, in a single swing.\u00a0 Then put it all under some pressure- a ball in the hole let\u2019s say- and you have a gem.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

On Boomsticking<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Boomsticking is that \u201cget the f*@K off me\u201d power.\u00a0 Adam Dunn<\/a>.\u00a0 Ryan Braun<\/a>.\u00a0 Jose Bautista<\/a>.\u00a0 Giancarlo Stanton<\/a>.\u00a0 These guys go boomsticking every at-bat, of every game.\u00a0 They carry boomsticks, not bats.\u00a0 Balls simply don\u2019t just come off the wood, they explode like firecrackers.\u00a0 It\u2019s a dazzling spectacle of human strength and ability.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

On the Key Ingredient<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Playing for keeps every time.\u00a0 Play scared, you gon be scared, son.\u00a0 Ya feel me?\u00a0 If you’re not gonna play for keeps, then what\u2019s the f&@%*#g point, right?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
