{"id":6066,"date":"2012-03-12T13:11:10","date_gmt":"2012-03-12T18:11:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/?p=6066"},"modified":"2012-03-12T13:26:57","modified_gmt":"2012-03-12T18:26:57","slug":"theres-always-magic-happening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/archives\/6066","title":{"rendered":"There&#8217;s Always Magic Happening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/astros_patch1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6068\" src=\"http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/astros_patch1-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/astros_patch1-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/astros_patch1-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/astros_patch1.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Dear Astros Fans,<\/p>\n<p>I know it has been a while since we have heard any promising news for the upcoming season.\u00a0 \u00a0I know it has probably been as hard for you, as it has been for me.\u00a0 With stories <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grantland.com\/blog\/the-triangle\/post\/_\/id\/17320\/2012-mlb-season-preview-houston-astros\">like this<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zimbio.com\/Major+League+Baseball\/articles\/nbW13uQaKXQ\/2012+MLB+Season+Preview+Houston+Astros\">this<\/a>, or even <a href=\"http:\/\/www.capperspicks.com\/blog\/mlb-baseball\/odds-2012-houston-astros-predictions-gambling-preview-21212\/\">this<\/a>, it\u2019s always a blessing to come across something, anything that can provide a glimmer of hope for the immediate future.\u00a0 And because I know this feeling, because every day this spring has been filled with someone telling me to be miserable for the next five years, or someone reminding me about how great it used to be, I became an enlightened individual who realized something; THAT\u2019S SOME BULLSHIT! \u00a0As devoted of a fan as I am, I have a hard time accepting that stigma.\u00a0 And so should you, Astros Fans.\u00a0 Enough is enough.\u00a0 We don\u2019t have to put up with believing that 2012 is not going to be an exciting, passion-filled, memorable season.\u00a0 Due to disgust I have decided to do something about it.\u00a0 I have decided to provide the light on the immediate future, and deliver some generally goodness in the process.\u00a0 I know it has been a while since we have heard any promising news for the 2012 season.\u00a0 So, this one, this one here is for ya\u2019ll. \u00a0I present to you, at least five reasons (who knows, ya\u2019ll might figure out even more) why it\u2019s better to be an Astros Fan, than any other MLB fan this summer.<\/p>\n<p>With love,<\/p>\n<p>Griffin<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0At Least 5 Reasons Why It&#8217;s Better To Be An Astros Fan in 2012.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>A chance at history<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s face it\u2026there is no getting around the fact that 2012 might be rough.\u00a0 If there were ever a silver lining, it would be this- getting in the record books.\u00a0 Some might choose not to see it this way, but this really would be a great opportunity for the Houston Astros.\u00a0 The record book is made to hold the names of people who were the best of the best.\u00a0 No matter the craft, there is no room for second best.\u00a0 Even if what you might have been best at is losing.\u00a0 If you are going to be bad, then you might as well go out in record-setting fashion.\u00a0 No matter what, if the 2012 Houston Astros were to set the all time single season loss record, this team could never die.\u00a0 It will withstand the test of time for future generations to enjoy; albeit in a different way.\u00a0 And that is all we truly want as a sports fan.\u00a0\u00a0 That one magical season where the stars align just right, and magic is made.\u00a0 Who cares what kind of magic it is.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>4. Sig Mejdal<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Taking on the role of <a href=\"http:\/\/houston.astros.mlb.com\/news\/article.jsp?ymd=20120131&amp;content_id=26525316&amp;vkey=news_hou&amp;c_id=hou\">Director of Decision Sciences<\/a> can\u2019t help but to get us started.\u00a0 He comes from the front office of the St. Louis Cardinals.\u00a0 With Minute Maid Park as his new office, expect him to bring a fresh take on evaluating, and changing habits in, evaluating the decisions being made.\u00a0 The draft this summer won\u2019t be his first rodeo either.\u00a0 He has been a key contributor on Cardinals draft day since 2005.\u00a0 To help aide him in his efforst, Mejdal hired an assistant- Mike Fast of Baseball Prospectus.\u00a0 Another fantastic direction it appears the Astros are heading down.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>3. Jeff Luhnow<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thank you, Mr. Crane.\u00a0 What a spectacular hire.\u00a0 Not only did we steal him away from our (soon to be no more) division rival Cardinals, we scored big time.\u00a0 With a history of strong drafts and embracing the numbers along with the talent to use as one universal scouting system, I\u2019m really happy about the front office of the Astros.\u00a0 \u00a0From what I have read and heard, so are a lot of other people.\u00a0 Bringing in this next man just adds to my giddiness.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>2. Jim Crane<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When we talk about a rebuilding process in Houston we ain\u2019t messing around.\u00a0 We start at the top.\u00a0 New ownership truly does clear the slate.\u00a0 No better time than the present.\u00a0 Jim Crane brings with him an eye for the future- both as far as the team on the field, and the butts in the seats.\u00a0 Slashing prices and allowing you to bring in your own food is a great start.\u00a0 Plus, he understands that an analytic\/scientific approach to the numbers of the game can help a franchise out.\u00a0 That explains the Jeff Luhnow hiring.\u00a0 And to top it off, he resisted the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/mlb\/articles\/the_tyrannical_reign_of_bud_selig\/4281187\">tyranny that is Bud Selig<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/hardballtalk.nbcsports.com\/2012\/03\/09\/its-official-the-astros-will-put-the-guns-back-on-the-colt-45-throwbacks\/\">got our guns back!<\/a>\u00a0 (If that ain\u2019t some Texas shit ya\u2019ll, I don\u2019t know what is.)<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>1.
