Baseball has Casey at the Bat.&#8221; &#8211; Albert Spalding<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is my modern take (<a href=\"..\/archives\/348\">my remix<\/a>, if you will) on Ernest L. Thayer\u2019s classic 1888 poem, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-almanac.com\/poetry\/po_case.shtml\">Casey at the Bat<\/a>. Anyone that takes the time to check their fantasy squad daily (<a href=\"..\/archives\/341\">or multiple times daily for you real nerds<\/a>) but has never taken the 60 seconds required to read this poetic piece of baseball lore should offer up their testicles (or ovaries, ladies) for batting practice.\u00a0 After reading <a href=\"..\/archives\/110\">Se\u00f1or Towel\u2019s piece<\/a>, mentioning baseball\u2019s most sacred stanzas, I got to wondering what it would be like if Casey had played in my lifetime instead of Wee Willie Keeler\u2019s.\u00a0 And I\u2019m sorry Wee Willie but these days \u2013 chicks dig the long ball!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Casey On The Juice<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Everyone remembers Mudville, and the game that went awry,<\/p>\n<p>When all the fans had put their faith into that Casey guy<\/p>\n<p>They thought he was their savior, the one to bring them joy<\/p>\n<p>But behind all that arrogance stood a scared little boy<\/p>\n<p>As Casey sauntered to the plate he gave all of them hope<\/p>\n<p>But three strikes was all it took to turn him to a joke<\/p>\n<p>Angry fans jeered! A lie! A fraud! Mudville should have won!<\/p>\n<p><em>But what if Casey came to bat in 1991?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Same confidence and swagger, as arrogant I am sure<\/p>\n<p>But what if this time Casey\u2019s blood wasn\u2019t quite so pure?<\/p>\n<p>By this time big was in and Casey had fans like the Beatles<\/p>\n<p>But often in the locker room he stuck himself with needles<\/p>\n<p>He stared into that pitcher\u2019s eyes, saw he was in his head<\/p>\n<p>He felt even more confident, blessed by steroid\u2019s edge<\/p>\n<p>This time Mudville cheered!
