{"id":3535,"date":"2011-04-09T12:29:37","date_gmt":"2011-04-09T17:29:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/?p=3535"},"modified":"2011-04-09T12:31:54","modified_gmt":"2011-04-09T17:31:54","slug":"poll-kyle-drabek-vs-zach-britton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/archives\/3535","title":{"rendered":"Poll: Kyle Drabek vs. Zach Britton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/kyledrabek.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3536\" title=\"kyledrabek\" src=\"http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/kyledrabek-300x189.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"189\" srcset=\"http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/kyledrabek-300x189.jpg 300w, http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/kyledrabek.jpeg 615w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Two of the American League\u2019s top pitching prospects were on display in the first week of the 2011 season, and suffice it to say, they both lived up to their respective hype.<\/p>\n<p>First up was the Blue Jays\u2019 <strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/d\/drabeky01.shtml?utm_source=direct&#038;utm_medium=linker&#038;utm_campaign=Linker\">Kyle  Drabek<\/a><\/strong>, who used his 89-91 mph cutter to befuddle the Minnesota Twins&#8217; offense on Saturday.\u00a0 He allowed one run in seven innings, while walking three and striking out seven.\u00a0 Oh yeah, <a href=\"http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2691\" target=\"_blank\">the Sombrero\u2019s No. 33<\/a> prospect <a href=\"http:\/\/toronto.bluejays.mlb.com\/video\/play.jsp?content_id=13401547\">took a no-hit bid into the sixth<\/a>.\u00a0 In his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.minorleagueball.com\/2011\/4\/2\/2085452\/ten-2011-rookie-predictions\" target=\"_blank\">\u201c10 Rookie Predictions\u201d<\/a> piece, John Sickels even predicts that Drabek will toss a no-no in early May \u2013 a bit bold, but definitely not unimaginable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mlb.mlb.com\/mlb\/gameday\/index.jsp?gid=2011_04_08_tormlb_anamlb_1&amp;mode=wrap\" target=\"_blank\">In his second outing of the year<\/a> against the Angels on Friday night, Drabek (ND) hurled six innings, allowing one earned run on six hits, while walking four and fanning five.<\/p>\n<p>Although the right-hander may not be an imposing presence on the mound, his aggressive approach and fearless demeanor seem to offset such criticism. I\u2019ve heard several people call him a bulldog, which for a 6-foot-1 righty is always a compliment.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/brittza01.shtml?utm_source=direct&#038;utm_medium=linker&#038;utm_campaign=Linker\">Zachary  Britton<\/a><\/strong> made his <a href=\"http:\/\/baltimore.orioles.mlb.com\/video\/play.jsp?content_id=13452957\">MLB debut<\/a> on Sunday against Tampa Bay, allowing just one run and three hits while walking three and fanning six.\u00a0 Here\u2019s the best part: Britton was even tougher than his line indicates.\u00a0 If you haven\u2019t seen the <a href=\"http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2870\" target=\"_blank\">Sombrero\u2019s No. 25 prospect<\/a> in action, you\u2019re missing out.\u00a0 The left-hander pounds the lower-half of the strike zone with his 90-92 mph sinker, and due to all of the arm-side action, generates a lot of swing-and-misses, especially from right-handed hitters.\u00a0 I was talking to Dee about Britton, and he said it best: \u201cI bet it really sucks facing that guy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Britton was supposed to make his second start of the season on Friday night, but the game was postponed due to all the rain.\u00a0 The left-hander will now throw today at 3:05 P.M.
