{"id":2188,"date":"2010-12-07T14:18:31","date_gmt":"2010-12-07T20:18:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/?p=2188"},"modified":"2010-12-07T14:23:33","modified_gmt":"2010-12-07T20:23:33","slug":"jerry-sands-takes-batting-practice-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2188","title":{"rendered":"Jerry Sands Takes Batting Practice (Video)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/JerrySandsProfile.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2189\" title=\"JerrySandsProfile\" src=\"http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/JerrySandsProfile.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"299\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is nothing an organization loves more than a middle to low round draft pick that ultimately emerges as a top prospect, and forces a team to incorporate him into their immediate plans.<\/p>\n<p>For the Los Angeles Dodgers, that player is <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/minors\/player.cgi?utm_source=direct&#038;utm_medium=linker&#038;utm_campaign=Linker&#038;id=sands-002ger\">Jerry  Sands<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 Drafted in the 25<sup>th<\/sup> round of the 2008 MLB Amateur Draft, Sands, 22, has continued to punish the baseball at each Minor League stop, displaying tremendous power, as well as the ability to play multiple positions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In 2010, Sands slashed .301\/.395\/.586 with 28 doubles, five triples, 35 home runs, 93 RBI while splitting time between Single-A Great Lakes and Double-A Chattanooga.\u00a0 Additionally, he walked 73 times and struck out 123 times in 590 plate appearances.\u00a0 While his undeniable power continues to turn heads, both his speed and ability to steal bases are perhaps the most intriguing components of his game.<\/p>\n<p>Considering that his previous high-water mark for stolen bases was five in 2008 in rookie ball, Sands turned it on this past year by swiping 18 bags in 20 attempts.\u00a0 Furthermore, in three Minor League season, Sands has stolen 24 bases in 27 attempts.<\/p>\n<p>At 6\u20194,\u201d 225 lbs., Sands has spent most of his Minor League career playing both corner outfield positions, as well as increased time at first base.\u00a0 It\u2019s well known that the Dodgers are merely content with <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/loneyja01.shtml?utm_source=direct&#038;utm_medium=linker&#038;utm_campaign=Linker\">James  Loney<\/a><\/strong> at first base, and that <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gibboja01.shtml?utm_source=direct&#038;utm_medium=linker&#038;utm_campaign=Linker\">Jay  Gibbons<\/a><\/strong> isn\u2019t exactly their solution for left field, so I wouldn\u2019t be surprised if they are prepping Sands for either gig.<\/p>\n<p>After all, who doesn\u2019t like the sound of an outfielder, let alone a first baseman, with 30\/20 potential?<\/p>\n<p>Here is a video of Sands taking batting practice during the 2010 Arizona Fall League:<br \/>\n<center><object width=\"480\" height=\"385\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/O6pO-UnMisU?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/O6pO-UnMisU?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"480\" height=\"385\"><\/embed><\/object><\/center><\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is nothing an organization loves more than a middle to low round draft pick that ultimately emerges as a top prospect, and forces a team to incorporate him into their immediate plans.
