Jeter&#8217;s reign of terror over"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/AlexeiRamirez.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1840\" title=\"AlexeiRamirez\" src=\"http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/AlexeiRamirez-279x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"279\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/AlexeiRamirez-279x300.jpg 279w, http:\/\/thegoldensombrero.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/AlexeiRamirez.jpg 340w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 279px) 100vw, 279px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In late September, with only a few games remaining in the regular season, I wrote a column that highlighted <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/ramiral03.shtml?utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_campaign=Linker\">Alexei  Ramirez<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s <a href=\"..\/archives\/1111\" target=\"_blank\">outstanding season<\/a> at shortstop for the Chicago White Sox.\u00a0 More importantly, I contended  that he should be the recipient of the Silver Slugger Award at  shortstop.\u00a0 However, after Tuesday\u2019s disconcerting announcement that  <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jeterde01.shtml?utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_campaign=Linker\">Derek  Jeter<\/a><\/strong> had won the Gold Glove over Alexei  Ramirez, I became  perturbed by the thought that the Rawlings Silver Slugger Award might  ultimately be just another popularity contest.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, logic prevailed on Thursday as Ramirez was awarded the  first Louisville Silver Slugger Award of his career, ending Jeter\u2019s  four-year stranglehold over the honor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In 2010, Alexei  Ramirez was clearly the best offensive \u2013 and  defensive, despite the votes cast by the managers and coaches &#8212;
